How to get a skunk out from under a shed or porch
There is a recommended technique of removing the skunk that has either moved in under your shed or
under your porch, or even under your house. The easiest way to tell that a skunk has taken up residence
on your property are these three signs:
• you have seen a skunk threatening or actually spraying your pets
• you have skunk size holes all over your backyard
• and there is a general odor of skunk around where you think the animal is
The first thing you have to do is to get the animal out of its den, you can't do anything with it in the
den because even if only by accident you happen to kill it then imagine if the smell is bad with a living
creature then what it's going to be like with a dead animal close by. Okay so you think the animal is living
under your porch, and you can see we you think it's getting in and out. The first thing you need to do is you
need to block up the hole with maybe some scrunched up paper, twigs and something like maybe grass cuttings.
The object of the exercise is to block the hole with materials that if the animal is in the den then he can
easily push them out of the way but by doing so it confirms to you that it is living there. You can also use
this same method to tell when the animal is under the porch or out foraging.
Remembering that this is a nocturnal forager then it would be more likely to assume the animal leaves its home soon
after sunset to satisfy its hunger. If you are absolutely sure the animal is out and there are also no babies at all
in the den then it is now time to seriously block that entrance, and for this you need metal, anything else a skunk will
just tear through. If you don't want to hang around till dark to make sure the animal is out but you are already sure there
are no young involved then by all means employee a one-way door, meaning the animal can leave but it cannot get back in.
Of course if it is legally permitted we you are you could set up a trap right outside the entrance and trap the skunk,
now a lot of people will tell you to take the skunk at least 10 miles from where you capture it but in some jurisdictions
moving the animal that far is highly illegal, find out before moving it.
